Single Replacement Number Plate (Front or Rear)
Most people don’t lose both plates at once. A reversing bump cracks the rear, a car wash catches the front, or someone takes one plate and leaves the other. If only one side needs replacing, there’s no need to pay for two.

When a single plate makes sense
- One plate is cracked, chipped or peeling
- Your MOT tester flagged one plate
- One plate was stolen (report it to the police as well)
- You need a rear plate for a bike rack or cycle carrier that covers your car’s plate
Front or rear: what’s the difference?
Front plates have black characters on a white background. Rear plates use a yellow background. Both use the same font, character height and spacing, so the new plate will sit alongside your existing one, as long as that one is still legal.

Sizes
Standard 520 x 111mm suits most cars. We also make short and hex plates for shorter registrations, oversized (533 x 152mm) and 4×4 (280 x 200mm) rear plates, and Japanese and US import sizes. Short, hex, oversized and 4×4 add £10. Import sizes add £5.
Road legal, every time
Every plate we make carries the British Standard mark (BS AU 145e) and our supplier name and postcode, and uses the legal Charles Wright font with the correct spacing. As a DVLA-registered number plate supplier, we have to see your ID and proof you’re entitled to the registration, the same as for a pair.
Delivery and collection
Order before 2pm and we’ll dispatch the same working day once your documents are in. Free Royal Mail Tracked 48 is included, and Tracked 24 is available at checkout. Prefer to collect? Pick it up from our Hounslow office, and we can fit it while you wait.
Questions
Do I still need documents for one plate?
Yes. The rules are the same for one plate as for two: photo ID and proof of entitlement. See which documents count.
Will it match my other plate?
It will if your other plate is a legal printed plate in the standard font. Sun and age fade older plates, so the new one may look brighter.
