5.0 on Google · hundreds of reviewsDundee went big on electric cars early. Back in 2018 the city opened its first rapid charging hub at Aimer Square, with more planned for Queen Street and Princes Street, and already had 94 fully electric taxis on its roads. If you drive an EV around the city, you’re entitled to a green flash on your plates.
We make EV plates in printed, 3D gel, 4D and 4D gel, plus our full range of standard plates, all in our own workshop near Heathrow. The number plates Dundee customers order are posted with free Royal Mail Tracked 48, usually in 2–3 working days from when your documents reach us.
Does your car qualify for the green flash?
Green flash plates have been allowed in the UK since 8 December 2020, but only for zero emission vehicles: cars that produce 0g/km of CO2 from the exhaust.
Can have a green flash
- Fully electric cars and vans
- Hydrogen fuel cell cars
- Any vehicle registered with zero CO2 emissions
Can’t have one
- Plug-in hybrids, even ones that drive on electric power for part of the time
- Self-charging hybrids
- Petrol and diesel cars
The flash sits on the left of the plate and has to be the right shade of green. Everything else about the plate, from the font to the spacing to the BS AU 145e mark, follows the normal rules.

Everything inside the inner ring road
Dundee’s Low Emission Zone covers the city centre inside the A991 inner ring road, an area of less than a square mile, and it was the first of the 2024 Scottish zones to start enforcing, on 30 May 2024. Cameras read the number plates Dundee drivers have on every vehicle going in. Fully electric cars always comply.
Penalties start at £60 (halved if paid within 14 days) and double with each repeat. Source: Dundee City Council LEZ report 2025.
Dundee, Angus and over the Tay
We haven’t posted many orders to Dundee itself yet, but this year one of our Scottish hex plate sets went across the Tay to Leven in Fife. Posting number plates Dundee-wide, across DD postcodes, Angus and north Fife, costs the same as anywhere in the UK.
Cars first registered in Dundee carry a memory tag from SP to ST. There’s more on what those letters mean on our Scotland page.
