5.0 on Google · hundreds of reviewsLow Emission Zone penalty notices issued in Edinburgh between April 2025 and March 2026. Every one started with a camera reading a number plate.
Source: City of Edinburgh Council, LEZ report 2025 to 2026Edinburgh’s Low Emission Zone covers 3.1 square kilometres of the city centre, and since 1 June 2024 it has been enforced by cameras that read the plate of every vehicle going in.
That makes the plate on your car more than a legal formality. We make the number plates Edinburgh customers order in our own workshop near Heathrow, to the BS AU 145e standard, with the legal font and spacing, and post it to Edinburgh with free Royal Mail Tracked 48.
What the council’s own report shows
The penalty for a car that doesn’t meet the standard starts at £60, halved if paid within 14 days, and doubles for each repeat up to £480.

Over the Forth in Fife?
Some of our Scottish orders this year went to Fife rather than the city itself: hex plates to Leven and a printed pair to Dunfermline. Number plates Edinburgh and Fife customers order are delivered the same way either side of the bridges. Cars first registered in Edinburgh carry a memory tag between SK and SO, and there’s more on Scottish registrations on our Scotland page.

Number plates Edinburgh: your questions
How long do number plates Edinburgh-bound take to arrive?
Free Tracked 48 usually takes 2–3 working days, Tracked 24 (£6.99) usually 1–2, from the day your documents reach us.
Do you deliver to Leith, Musselburgh and Livingston?
Yes. We post number plates Edinburgh-wide and across the Lothians and Fife, with the same delivery options and prices as the rest of the UK.
Does the LEZ cover the whole of Edinburgh?
No. It only covers the city centre, an area of about 3.1 square kilometres. Driving elsewhere in the city isn’t affected.
Will new plates change whether my car meets the LEZ rules?
No. Whether a car can enter depends on its emissions standard, which the cameras look up from the registration. New plates just make sure that registration is read correctly.
What do you need from me?
Photo ID and your V5C, or another document from our valid documents list. Photos by WhatsApp or email are fine.
Can I order just a front or just a rear plate?
Yes. In the 3D builder you can choose front only or rear only, and some styles are sold as singles, like our single bevelled plate from £39.99.
