US Import Number Plates

Our us import number plates are road legal UK plates sized for 305mm × 152mm import recesses, with the registration on two lines. They are made to order in our Hounslow workshop by a DVLA-registered supplier, from £49.99 a pair with free tracked UK delivery.

Who needs us import number plates?

American cars, trucks and SUVs such as the Ford Mustang and F-150, Dodge Challenger and Charger, Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette, and Jeep Wrangler are built for the 12 × 6 inch US plate. A standard UK plate does not fit the recess or the mounting holes.

Most US imports take a 305mm × 152mm plate on both ends. Some have a front bumper wide enough for a standard UK plate, so you can choose a UK standard front with a US import rear.

Choose any of our road legal character styles. Prices are for a front and rear pair of import plates:

A standard UK size plate on the front takes £10 off. Each import plate costs £10 more than a standard plate in the same style, because it uses a larger, taller blank. You can add a border, fixing pads or screws when you order, and in-store fitting is available at our Hounslow workshop.

Are us import number plates road legal?

Yes, if your vehicle cannot take a standard UK plate. Regulation 14A of the registration mark rules lets imported vehicles whose plate space is too small for a 520mm × 111mm plate use smaller characters:

• characters 64mm tall and 44mm wide (except the figure 1 and the letter I), with a 10mm stroke;
• 10mm between characters and 5mm between the two lines;
• at least 5mm clear at the top and sides, and 13mm at the bottom.

You can read the wording in the 2002 amendment regulations and the DVLA’s guide to displaying number plates. If a standard plate fits your car, the law expects you to use one. Every plate we make meets BS AU 145e and carries our name and postcode.

Every pair is checked against the legal spacing before it leaves the workshop, and both plates carry the British Standard mark, so they are ready for the MOT.

How to order us import number plates

1. Enter your registration, pick a style and choose a matching import plate or a UK standard plate for the front.
2. Send photo ID and proof you are entitled to the registration, such as the V5C logbook, by WhatsApp or email. See our list of valid documents.
3. We make your plates in Hounslow. Orders placed by 2pm usually go out the same working day once your documents arrive.

US import number plates FAQs

Can I have one import plate and one UK plate?

Yes. Choose “Standard Size” for the front plate and keep the import size for the rear. It takes £10 off the pair.

Do you only make the rear plate?

These products are sold as pairs. If you only need one import plate, order one of our style products and pick the import size for that plate with “Not Required” for the other.

How long does delivery take?

Royal Mail Tracked 48 is free and usually takes 2 working days. Tracked 24 is £5 and usually arrives the next working day, or you can collect from Hounslow for free.
