Number plates for London drivers, made in our West London workshop

Whether you’re in Hackney, Harrow or Croydon, there are three ways to get road-legal plates from us. Come to the workshop and wait while we make them, order online and pick them up the same day, or have them posted to you with free Royal Mail tracked delivery.

Every set is pressed and printed by our own team near Heathrow. We’re on the DVLA’s register of number plate suppliers, so like any legitimate maker we’ll ask for photo ID and proof the registration belongs to the car.

Coming from South London? The drive adds up

Plenty of our customers cross London to get to us, and a good number of them come from South London. When we ask why they’ve made the trip, the answer is nearly always the same. They looked for a number plate maker closer to home and couldn’t find one they trusted to do the job properly: a registered supplier, road-legal plates, and no cutting corners on the paperwork. Some of them drive an hour and a half to two hours to reach us, and they tell us it was worth it.

That’s lovely to hear, but you don’t have to make that journey.

We checked Google Maps on a weekday lunchtime (Monday 5 October 2026) to see what that trip looks like:

  • Wimbledon: about 55 minutes
  • Streatham Hill: about 1 hour 20 minutes
  • East Croydon: about 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Brixton: about 1 hour 25 minutes by car, or about an hour on public transport

That’s one way, before the drive home. If you’re south of the river and don’t need the plates today, Tracked 24 for £5 will usually get them to you sooner than a round trip would. If you’d still rather come in, for example so we can fit them for you, call or WhatsApp first and we’ll book you a slot.

Plates stolen in London?

London has a bigger plate theft problem than anywhere else in the UK. When the AA asked police forces for their figures, the Met had recorded 32,307 number plate thefts between January 2015 and September 2018, more than any other force. It hasn’t eased off since: thefts reported to DVLA rose by 68% between 2021 and 2024, according to figures Churchill Motor Insurance obtained from DVLA.

If yours have gone:

  1. Report it to the police and keep the crime reference number. Stolen plates usually end up on a similar car, and that reference is what protects you if parking or speeding fines start arriving in your name.
  2. Leave the car where it is. Driving without plates isn’t legal, so don’t drive it over to us.
  3. Get replacements sorted. Order online with Tracked 24, or let someone else come in for you. They’ll need their own photo ID plus your V5C, or another document on our valid documents list.

Our step-by-step guide to stolen number plates covers insurers, cloned plates and what to do if fines arrive.

Putting a private registration on your car

The other job London customers bring us most often is a private plate. We can make your plates once DVLA has assigned the number to your vehicle. Bring or send your V750 certificate of entitlement or V778 retention document (or the new V5C once it turns up), plus photo ID.

Two things to watch:

  • Don’t fit the new plates early. Until the number is assigned, the car is still registered under its old one.
  • Don’t be tempted to bend the spacing. Squeezing letters together or using a stylised font to spell a name is the classic private plate mistake. It can fail an MOT, bring a fine of up to £1,000, and DVLA can take the registration back. We make every set to the legal spacing, and our number plate spacing guide explains why.

What London customers usually order

Most of the plates we post to London addresses are straight replacements: standard printed plates at £29.99 a pair. If you want something with more depth, 3D gel and 4D 3mm plates start at £49.99, 4D gel is £64.99 and bevelled, our best seller across all orders, is £69.99. All of them are road legal and carry the BS AU 145e marking.

Fitting, mobile fitting and garages

If you come in, we can fit your plates in about 20 minutes: £30 for plates we’ve made, or £40 if you bring a set bought elsewhere. Booking is needed. We fit plates on cars, vans and other three- and four-wheeled vehicles, but not motorbikes.

We can sometimes come out to fit plates, or drop them off at a local garage. That depends on where you are and when we’re free, so message us for a price.

London questions

Can I get number plates the same day in London?

Yes. Most plates are made while you wait at our workshop. For delivery, plates go out the same afternoon if your order and documents reach us before 2pm on a weekday, and Tracked 24 usually arrives the next working day.

Can you post plates to my work address in London?

Yes, any UK address works, including offices. Just make sure someone can take the parcel in.

My plates have been stolen. Can I drive to you?

Not without plates on the car. Use Tracked 24, or ask a friend or family member to come in with their own ID and your V5C.

Will you ask for a crime reference before making replacements?

No. We need photo ID and proof the registration is yours. You should still report the theft to the police for your own protection.

I’ve just bought a private plate. How quickly can you make it?

As soon as DVLA has assigned it to your car. Walk in and we’ll make it while you wait, or order online and it goes out the day your documents reach us.

Do you deliver to every London postcode?

Yes, at the same price as anywhere else in the UK: free with Tracked 48, or £5 for Tracked 24.
