Number Plates Manchester
Road-legal plates for Manchester drivers, posted from our workshop
Ordering number plates from 200 miles away might sound like the long way round, but Royal Mail gets a parcel from us to Manchester in about the same time it takes to reach the next town over. Most of our Manchester customers order online because they want a particular style, a warranty they can rely on and a supplier that does the paperwork properly.
We’re a DVLA-registered number plate supplier, and every set is made by our own team in our workshop near Heathrow. Delivery to any Manchester address is free with Royal Mail Tracked 48, or £5 if you’d like Tracked 24.
Local maker or order online?
Manchester has its own number plate shops, and if you need plates on the car within the hour, one of them is your best bet. We’d rather say that than pretend otherwise.
Ordering from us makes more sense when:
- You want a specific style. We make everything from standard printed plates to bevelled, 4D gel and 6mm 4D, all in-house.
- You want it done properly. We check ID and entitlement on every order, as a registered supplier must. If a seller doesn’t ask for your documents, the plates either aren’t road legal or the seller isn’t registered.
- You want a guarantee. Every set comes with a 3-year warranty against fading and characters coming away.
- You can wait a day or two. Once your documents reach us, plates usually arrive within 1 to 2 working days.
What Manchester customers order from us
Most of the orders we post to Greater Manchester are premium styles rather than basic replacements. Over the past year, sets have gone to Stockport, the Bury and Radcliffe area and Salford, including two sets of bevelled plates, EV retro plates, 4D 3mm and 4D gel. The average Greater Manchester order came to around £78.
If you’re choosing, here’s where prices start today:
| Style | From (pair) |
|---|---|
| Bevelled | £69.99 |
| 4D gel 3mm | £64.99 |
| 4D 6mm gel | £79.99 |
| 4D 3mm | £49.99 |
| 3D gel | £49.99 |
| EV retro | £74.99 |
| Standard printed | £29.99 |
How ordering from Manchester works
- Pick your style and order online. You’ll see a preview of your plates as you build them.
- Send your documents straight away. We need photo ID plus a document showing the registration is yours, usually the V5C. Photos by WhatsApp or email are the quickest way, or you can post the originals and we’ll send them back with your plates. Our valid documents page lists everything we accept.
- We make and dispatch. Documents in by 2pm on a weekday means your plates leave us that day.
- Royal Mail brings them to you. Every parcel is tracked. Plates travel in a padded envelope or a cardboard box, marked fragile, and if anything arrives damaged we’ll send a free replacement.
Plate theft in Greater Manchester
Greater Manchester has one of the worst records in the country for stolen number plates. Figures the AA obtained from police forces showed Greater Manchester Police recorded 9,310 plate thefts between January 2015 and September 2018, including 2,221 in a single year.
If it happens to you, tell the police first and note down the crime reference, because stolen plates are usually fitted to a similar car to dodge fines and charges. Our stolen number plates guide walks through the rest. Replacements only need your ID and V5C, and with Tracked 24 they’ll usually be with you the next working day after your documents arrive.
What your M memory tag means
The first two letters of a modern registration are the memory tag, and they show which DVLA region the car was first registered in. Cars first registered in the Manchester region carry an M tag, anything from MA to MY, so if your reg starts with an M, there’s a good chance the car has been local since new.
Whatever the letters, the rules for the plate itself are the same everywhere: the legal font, the legal spacing and the BS AU 145e marking. That applies to private registrations too: we won’t close up the gaps, and our guide to number plate spacing sets out why.
